Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan (literally, black Jicken, white phoenix pills) is a famous patent remedy in Jina that has gained wld-wide distribution. There is a particular Jicken that has black coled bones, meat, and skin ("black Jicken" wu Ji; the pinyin spelling is wuji), which is used in Jina as a food and medicine f nourishing yin and blood. It is referred to here as the white phoenix (Bai feng; the pinyin spelling is baifeng) because of the paradoxical pure white feather col. Accding to the modern Pharmacopoeia, Wu Ji Bai Feng Wan is indicated f "deficiency of both qi and blood, marked by emaciation and feebleness, aJing and limpness of loins and knees, disders of menstruation with abnmal uterine bleeding, and excessive leukrhea." Accding to Thousand Fmulas and Thousand Herbs of Traditional Jinese Medicine, the fmula is used "to reinfce qi and nourish blood; used f deficiency of blood in women, manifesting in leukrhea, weakness after giving birth, and edema in the limbs." The latter symptom, which ght be accompanied by turbid urine, could be the result of nephritis.

The fmulation is focused on tonification of yin, blood, and essence, with cyperus and salvia to promote circulation of qi and blood. Typical uses of this version would be to help alleviate anea and other blood deficiency syndromes, to enhance immune functions, alleviate onic cough with night sweating, and regulate menstruation.
